Traditional Czech restaurant in Prague centre, that offers gluten free menu!
The stylish ŠVEJK restaurant in Prague's centre, in close proximity to the famous brewery U Fleků, will with its inimitable atmosphere transport you back to the era of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, to the very beginning of the 20th century. We offer to our customer 120 seats in the restaurant, 22 seats in the nonsmoking and 8 seats in the card lounge. The decoration of our restaurant worked out in details, pictures of Josef Lada in Švejk's spirit, crew costumes, but also a card lounge and of course delicious old Czech cuisine with original recipes, and excellent Pilsner Urquell 12°, will perfectly illustrate the sprit of those times.
Our menu is focused on the traditional Czech cuisine and we try to cook the same way as our grandmas, using real homemade ingredients and processes. Moreover we are one of the few Prague restaurants where you can get gluten free dishes as well as come for early breakfast, either English one or traditional. In addition to Pilsner beer, you can quench your thirst with popular Gambrinus 10°, Velkopopovický kozel dark beer or alcohol-free Radegast Birrel, as well as a further selection of alcoholic and soft drinks, including stylish Becherovka. In addition to a great atmosphere, meals and drinks, you will be pleasantly surprised by our prices.
We are settled in the centre of Prague - Křemencova 7 street. Near are the tram stops Lazarská a Karlovo náměstí and underground station Národní třída and Karlovo náměstí.
The building itself, which the restaurant was established in, was built in 1896-7 by the famous architect František Buldra. It disposes of high quality cellars utilized by the Prague owner of a wine bar - Goldhammer, who established a wine wholesale business and a tavern, U politicks mrtvoly (Has-been's) here back in the First Republic. This tavern was visited among others by one of the first members of Devětsil - Vladimir Štulc, Eduard Bass with his attendant L. Khás, Professor V.V. Štech, Vaclav Talich, sometimes also by the poets Holan and Nezval, and other prominent artists of those times.
